Andean Glaciers & Global warming

“By the end of the 21st century, (...) the tropical Andes may experience a massive warming on the order of 4.5–5 °C. Predicted changes in precipitation include an increase in precipitation during the wet season and a decrease during the dry season, which would effectively enhance the seasonal hydrological cycle in the tropical Andes.
These observed and predicted changes in climate affect the tropical glacier energy balance through its sensitivity to changes in atmospheric humidity (which governs sublimation), precipitation (whose variability induces a positive feedback on albedo) and cloudiness (which controls the incoming long-wave radiation). In the inner tropics air temperature also significantly influences the energy balance, albeit not through the sensible heat flux, but indirectly through fluctuations in the rain–snow line and hence changes in albedo and net radiation receipts. |

Given the projected changes in climate, based on different IPCC scenarios for 2050 and 2080, simulations with a tropical glacier–climate model indicate that glaciers will continue to retreat. Many smaller, low-lying glaciers are already completely out of equilibrium with current climate and will disappear within a few decades”.

You will visit and climb some of the most beautiful mountains of the world like to Cotopaxi, the Antisana, the Cayambe, or the Illinizas and learn deeply about those silent giants. How can we avoid the worst scenario for our planet? What is the importance of glaciers and their history?

How to book?
Call us or email us at info@terrasenses.com for more information on our featured trips & honeymoons or for a made to measure holiday.
A Terrasenses team member will answer you by e-mail within 48 hours. Once you choose a trip, we will send you the booking form you have to complete. You can choose to pay online by PayPal or by deposit (wire transfer). For departures outside 6 months travellers pay a deposit of 20% per person (which ever is greater) – for earlier departures a 40% deposit per person is asked and the total amount of the trip is due 90 days before departure.
For Destination Weddings bookings, we encourage you to book as soon as possible. Most Ecuadorian weddings book six months to one year in advance of the ceremony. The sooner we are contacted, the better we can accommodate your request. As soon as you know the date and time, the more chance you will have to secure the exact date and time you want for your Ecuadorian wedding ceremony. However, even if you decide last minute, please feel free to call us about availability. We will always try our best for you. We require a 30% non-refundable deposit that will secure the date, time and location. The letter of agreement must be signed and returned to confirm the booking along with the required 30% deposit payment. With Terrasenses and ETICA Events, there are no hidden costs.
